Kisspeptin

Kisspeptin is a peptide ligand encoded by the KISS1 gene and investigated in laboratory and controlled clinical research for its regulatory role within the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal (HPG) axis. Kisspeptin binds to the G protein-coupled receptor KISS1R (also known as GPR54), initiating signaling cascades that stimulate gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) secretion under controlled experimental conditions. Because GnRH governs downstream luteinizing hormone (LH) and follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) release, Kisspeptin is central to research examining neuroendocrine regulation of reproductive signaling.

In vitro systems and structured clinical investigations evaluate endpoints including KISS1R binding affinity, intracellular calcium mobilization, phospholipase C activation, LH and FSH secretion dynamics, and transcriptional responses associated with GnRH neuron activation relative to controls. Additional research explores feedback interactions with sex steroid hormones, hypothalamic signaling integration, and gene-expression markers linked to pubertal and reproductive axis regulation within defined neuroendocrine research frameworks.
